Lymphocyte
There are two types of lymphocytes:
B lymphocytes (B cells)
and
T lymphocytes (T cells)
.
Both circulate through the blood and lymph in the spleen,
lymph nodes
and tissues.
Both recognize antigens by antigen-specific receptors in their plasma membranes.
Epitopes
Fun Fact: Each lymphocyte has 100,000 antigen receptors. They are identical and recognize the same epitope: a small accessible portion of an antigen.
Each lymphocyte is special for a particular epitope and defends against those antigens and similar ones.
